| Freeze
Dryers |
| Delvac’s
Lyodel range of freeze dryers has been designed to meet the stringent
requirements of freeze drying applications in Research & Development
of Pharmaceutical Industries, Biotech Laboratories as well as Postgraduate
Laboratories. |
| Mini-Lyodel |
| This
is Delvac’s smallest bench top freeze dryer. Having
an ice capacity of 1.5 kg, it also represents excellent value.
Taking up minimal bench space, the Mini-Lyodel is ideal for
all common freeze drying applications and is useful as a cold
trap fro single or multiple units. This unit is available
in two versions: |
 |
| 1.
|
Economy
Model – without temperature and vacuum
indications |
| 2.
|
Standard
Model – with digital temperature and
analog vacuum indication |
|
|
| Top |
| Lyodel |
 |
This easy
to use, bench top model is a proven workhorse. With vertically
positioned ice condenser, this is easy to drain and clean.
With a 5 kg ice capacity, the Lyodel model has digital temperature
and analog vacuum display (digital vacuum indication is optional).
It can also be used a cold trap in combination with Lyodel
concentrators. |
|
| |
| Maxi-Lyodel |
|
With
an 18 litres ice capacity for high product volumes and long
running times between defrosts, this is ideal for multi-user
operation in the laboratory or small-scale production. With
integral vacuum pumping, visible ice buildup and failsafe
operation from interlocked controls, this mobile unit is upgradeable
to pilot plant with addition of a three shelf refrigerated
chamber with stoppering device. |

| Vacuum
Concentration |
| Principle
of operation: Basically the same principle of freeze drying
/ lyophilisation / sublimation is made use of. In freeze-drying,
we pre-freeze the product to a solid ice matrix and then evaporate
it under high vacuum. The process of sublimation dries the
product. These processes of concentration make use of the
following: |
 |
| 1.
|
Centrifugation |
| 2.
|
Application
of high vacuum |
| 3.
|
Application
of heating under controlled conditions |
|
|
|
| Centrifugation |
The
centrifugation results in a centrifugal force of 200-450 x g to
prevent bumping, boiling, frothing and physical loss of the sample
under concentration. If the product is dried, then the solute is
deposited at the bottom of the container. It is very easy and complete.
In our concentrators, centrifugation is provided by a continuously
rated geared high torque Panasonic motor coupled to a dependable
direct driven shaft with adequate vacuum seals of tested/ proven
performance. The drive will never have any slip or drop in speed.
It will work at a constant uniform speed of 1400 RPM. This has a
rigid mounting eliminating vibrations and has a timer control to
set a time interval of 10 to 120 minutes. |
| |
| High
vacuum and heating |
The
application of vacuum and heating accelerates solvent evaporation
process. During the process of evaporation, the latent of evaporation
drops the temperature of the product and solidifies the liquid.
Then this is freeze-drying. Hence the correct application of heat
maintains the product under liquid state at below ambient temperatures,
through out the concentration process. As the entire process is
carried out at safe below ambient temperatures, the loss of activity
or damage to heat sensitive substances are eliminated. The greatest
advantage is the product cannot get oxidized during the drying process,
in order it prevent aqueous solutions getting frozen, Lyodel Concentrators
make use of built-in low wattage heating system. As the heating
is applied from the periphery of the chamber, the heating is uniform
and efficient. |
| The Lyodel concentration
system comprises of the following parts: |
| 1.
|
The
centrifuge |
| 2.
|
The
refrigerated condenser / tarp with glass insert trap |
| 3.

without vacuum leakage. This has a digital temperature indicator and
an automatic bleeding valve. |
| |
| High
Vacuum pump: |
| Choosing the
right vacuum pump is almost as important as the freeze dryer itself.
All the Lyodel freeze dryers are supplied with specially designed
direct driven high vacuum pumps along with an oil mist filter. These
pumps have built-in anti-suck back mechanism and gas ballet valve
to increase the life of the high vacuum pump oil. Also these pumps
have a high water vapour handling capacity, also the suction side
of the pump can be provided with an electrically operated solenoid
valve as an additional safety. |

following rotors are available. Soon other rotors will be made available. |
